WHAT?
Hidden at the edge of a picture-book perfect forest is this unconventional hotel. The oh-so-chic V Art Hotel and Treehouses blends together modern design, street art and nature in a way that creates a cosy but unique holiday experience. Warmth radiates from the team that work here, headed by owner Christina Voit who saved the building from ruin, transforming it into a space in which you’ll want to linger.
A highlight are the modern treehouses that are dotted through the garden, offering views of the trees and their fluffy inhabitants. Decor - throughout the hotel - is modern, with leather sofas and crisp white linens, and, of course, there are pops of colour from the bold artworks and engaging photos that draw your eyes.
On your doorstep is Germany’s former capital, Bonn, a majestic city that is best explored in a lazy fashion with numerous stops for coffee or beer. Travel in the other direction and you’ll find rolling hills with hidden castles. A stay at V Art Hotel and Treehouses really provides you with the best of both worlds, and a stay here is anything but dull.
WHY?
I fell in love because...
- There are cool artworks to discover throughout the property, and trying finding them all feels like a treasure hunt
- There’s a relaxed, restorative energy here even though you’re at the heart of the city
You must...
- Stay in one of the treehouses if you can, they’re playful and romantic
- Explore Bonn’s Museum Mile: there's something for everyone, from the Museum König to the Haus der Geschichte to the Bundeskunsthalle
You might dislike...
- Breakfast costs extra, but it's delicious and there's a large spread available
- Some of the rooms are a little small, but they are full of personality
WHO?
Introducing Christina!
“I bought the property with my father in 2012. It was a kind of ruin at that time and had been empty for 12 years. We saw its potential and are so happy with how the renovations turned out”
She loves…
“What I like best is the symbiosis of old and new… for example, we left three walls in the hallway that were sprayed with old graffiti and added to it. I find it exciting to make something new out of what is already there.”
Christina’s insider tips
- Bonn’s city centre is beautiful; it's all pedestrianised, with lots of nice shops and cafés to linger in.
- Take a trip to the Siebengebirge, from where there are many excursion options. For example, head to the Drachenfels with its castle where you can take a ride on the historic cable car.
- Explore the Kottenforst - a true fairytale forest - by foot or by (e-)bike; this is the nature reserve that surrounds V Art Hotel and Treehouses.
- Visit the Meyer-Näkel winery, just 30-minutes away, to sample the different vintages on offer. Alternatively, enjoy one of their wines in your room.
