Striking shingle-clad houses boasting traditional apartments with a modern flare set in a serene forest clearing with a spa, perfect for those seeking relaxation

WHAT?

On those days in the city when my mind is stressed and craving silence, I shut my eyes and imagine myself strolling along a winding path through forests full of fir trees, where the ground is covered in moss. A place where the hues of green are so intense that the brain can barely comprehend that they’re natural. A place so rich that stress melts away and my body softens. At Ansitz Hohenegg, this stress-eliminating walk is not just a reality, it’s your entrance passage into the gorgeous world created by Anna-Dina and Sebastian. At the end of the path so rugged that, in winter, cars can’t get through, there is a clearing that opens up and presents a strikingly beautiful, 300-year-old, wood-tiled house.

The former farmhouse was (re-)discovered by Anna-Dina and Sebastian who immediately fell in love, and quickly set about realising their vision of cosy holiday apartments that would feel like a true home-from-home. Today, four cosy, stylish apartments are located in this clearing, so remote all you can hear is the wind in the trees and the sound of birdsong. Spaces are bright and open, with historic details - like wooden beams and stone fireplaces - being highlighted and balancing out the modern furniture. Outside, you find a wellness area, boasting a sauna with views into the dense ancient forest.

As hard as it may be, you should tear yourself away from the house and go exploring, as the surrounding region is stunning. Hikes into the Alps begin from the doorstep, gorges formed during the ice age are nearby, and you can easily reach some of Germany’s most picturesque castles

Stay with a partner, stay with friends, stay with family, stay with your dog, stay alone. What’s most important is that you stay.

WHY?

I fell in love because...
  • A huge emphasis has been placed on creating a peaceful environment and spoiling apartments, where guests can truly unwind
  • You are surrounded by the forest, where all you can hear is the gentle rustling of the trees, the babbling of the spring, the cowbells ringing in the distance, and the twittering of birds
You must...
  • Take a hike to one of the Alp’s mountain huts for a wholesome lunch. For instance, Alpe Bergwies is a 1.5-hour hike away
  • Go tobogganing! There’s a summer run nearby, and in the winter you can expect lots of great snow
You might dislike...
  • An additional cleaning fee is added on top of the nightly rate
  • Arriving here using public transportation, while possible, is very difficult, plus having a car makes exploring the area much easier due to limited bus connections and a long walk to the nearest bus stop

WHO?

Introducing Anna-Dina and Sebastian!

“There are places you can’t look for, but are lucky enough to just find. When we discovered this mountain farm dating from 1730, we were completely enchanted and fell in love instantly. After a year of renovating, we were proud to have created a space we would love to holiday in: somewhere sophisticated, with individual charm, incredibly homely, and somewhere we felt comfortable and able to relax.”

They love…

“Every time we climb the mountain path that winds its way up the mountain through a stately spruce forest, and come into the sun-drenched clearing, we have our breath taken by the beauty of the ancient farmhouse buildings.”

Anna-Dina and Sebastian’s insider tips

  • Relax in our spa area: there’s a sauna made of local hand-planed spruce wood, a relaxation room with cosy day beds, and a large splash shower with ice-cold mountain water
  • In the summer, there is nothing better to do than laze outside in the clearing, reading and soaking up the sun and special energy of the forest clearing. In the winter, wrap up warm and gaze at the stars from around the firepit
  • Take a hike to the Königsalpe or Alpe Bergwies, routes for both leave from the front door
  • You can easily drive to Kempten (one of the oldest towns in Germany), to Lake Constance or to the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle

Ansitz Hohenegg

“We enjoyed late summer in the bliss of the treetops and experienced a week of pure relaxation. The apartment is well equipped and we didn't miss anything. The warm welcome from Steffi and the friendly conversations with the Priller family inspired us to take new trips into the area every day.”

WHERE?

Ansitz Hohenegg is located in Bavaria, close to the Austrian border.

Arriving by car is recommended. As Ansitz Hohenegg is located at the end of a forest path an off-road vehicle is recommended for access. In winter, depending on the weather and snow conditions, it is recommended to travel with snow chains. In extreme snowy conditions, access with your car cannot be guaranteed and the parking lot in the valley should be used. Luggage would then be driven up the mountain by team and you would be required to walk along the forest path (~2km).

Travelling here using public transport is possible, but difficult. The nearest train station is Röthenbach im Allgäu, from there, it’s best to take a taxi, as the bus from Röthenbach to Riedholz is very limited and the bus stop is a 40-minute walk (uphill) to Ansitz Hohenegg.

HOW?

As a thank you for using the Staycation Collection, you’ll receive a welcome package (think espresso capsules, chocolate and craft beer) on your arrival, just mention us when booking.
