WHAT?
Julia grew up visiting this ancient farmhouse regularly as a child, playing in the garden with her grandmother Anna. The house is full of happy memories, laugher and love. Julia and her husband Micheal inherited the farmhouse, and raised their three children in it. Luckily for us, their children have left the nest, and d'Kammer has been opened as a guest house offering that family warmth in the most stunning surroundings.
The three bedrooms have been named after Julia’s children - Anna, Oskar and Selma - and have a beautiful Bavarian simplicity, blending modern interiors with old family furniture, but each is completely individual. Breakfast is a delight, and - in our opinion - best enjoyed from the roof terrace so you can take in the view across the meadows (and the neighbour’s cows) and river at the back of the house. Food is based on the slow food movement, and all produce is locally and organically sourced. It’s also a chance to get tips from Julia about what to do in the region, which is not as crowded as other parts of the Allgäu. Spend your days hiking, biking or swimming, happy in the knowledge you get to curl up in this home with heart.
WHY?

You must...
- Try breakfast at least once: all produce is from the Allgäu region, and grown and served according to slow food principles
- Spend some time at the river Iller, which flows through the village: go swimming, boating or stand-up paddleboarding
You might dislike...
- Each room has its own private shower, however, it is located across the hall from the room, plus the toilets are communal
- Noise from the road in front of the house can sometimes drift in, but out back everything is oh-so peaceful

Julia and Michael’s insider tips
- Visit the open-air farm museum in the village, which is really great for the whole family.
- Go outside and explore! You can be everywhere in 30 minutes: Lake Constance, the mountains, the city, a theme park, museums!
- There are so many swimming lakes in the surrounding area! Pack your swimming things and a book and spend the day lazing by the water.
- Take a trip to the numerous beautiful villages and towns in the region. You must visit Memmingen, Kempten or Ulm.

THE
ESSENTIALS
- Sleeping arrangements: There are three bedrooms. Oskar (gets evening sun) and Selma (former farmer's room) can sleep 1-4 (double bed plus extra beds) and Anna (gets morning sun) can sleep 2 adults and a child.
- Bathroom set up: Each of the three rooms has its own bathroom, however, they are located across the hall from the bedroom (each has a shower). Ringana toiletries, Sante shower gel and shampoo, bathrobes and slippers are provided.
- Food: Each apartment has access to a fridge, hobs (no oven), a kettle, a coffee machine and a BBQ, plus you’ll find salt, pepper, sugar, coffee, tea, washing-up liquid, and dishwasher tabs. Breakfast can be ordered for €15 per person, too. There’s a bakery in the village, as well as an inn with a beer garden and a pizzeria.
- For families: Kids are more than welcome, and cots, high chairs and baby monitors can be provided, as can diaper bags, children's dishes, bibs, and toys. There’s an onsite playground, riding equipment such as a go-cart and bikes.
- On-site equipment: There’s a large selection of magazines, travel guides and hiking maps.
- Optional extras: You can rent bikes.
- Help: Julia and Michael live right next door, and can also be reached by telephone.
- Remember to pack: Nothing! Just bring yourself
- Pets: Not allowed.
- Sustainability: The food is sourced locally and produced using sustainable practices. The house was renovated using climate-friendly methods and materials in collaboration with local suppliers. Plastic is not used when possible, and both cleaning products and toiletries are from sustainable sources.
- To note: In May, June and September, there’s a 2-night minimum stay, and in July and August (7-night minimum stay) and over Christmas and New Year (5-night minimum stay) the house can only be rented as a whole.
WHERE?
d'Kammer is located in Illerbeuren-Kronburg, in the Unterallgäu.
It’s a 7-hour drive from Berlin, and you can park onsite.
The closest train station is Memmingen (direct trains from Munich), from where you can take a bus or Julia can arrange to collect you.
