Ostseehof Langfeld

WHAT?
With spoiling views over the dramatic coastline of Northern Germany, this former farm was revived from ruin by Johanna, who inherited the crumbling buildings and overgrown land from her family. Luckily for us, she opened the farm to holiday goers, and the thatched cottages and half-timbered houses are a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Bright open-plan kitchens with huge wooden dining tables are the centre of the four individual spaces, reminding us of the importance of the connection with our loved ones. Each house is wonderfully modern and has its own colour palette and is fully of unique antiques and pieces of furniture that give a nod to the former life of the buildings.
If you can face tearing yourself away from the wood-burning fires, there’s a communal space with a sauna and relaxation room, as well as table tennis and table football tables. Beyond the bounds of the property, you’ll find unspoilt nature and rugged landscapes; explore by bike, foot or horseback. We fell in love with the sleek simplicity of Ostseehof Langfeld, and we think you will, too.

WHY?
I fell in love because...
- You are surrounded by incredible nature: the cottages are located in the hills at the edge of a nature reserve with a view over the sea
- This is cottagecore at its finest. Expect modern interiors, pastel colours, antique furniture and exposed wooden beams
You must...
- Spend time at the cottages: there’s a sauna, a huge garden and old fireplaces
- Go for a cliff-top hike and breathe in as much fresh sea air as possible
You might dislike...
- There’s a final cleaning charge which isn’t included in the price
- During the summer, the houses get booked up, often months in advance

WHO?
Introducing Johanna!
“Our motto is ‘less is more’! Here you can have a complete digital detox, it’s a needed luxury to disconnect from the ever-faster-moving world.”
She loves…
“The location is stunning, it’s one of the few places I go for total peace and quiet.”
Johanna’s insider tips
- Go hiking: in Angeln, an area nestled between the Baltic Sea and the Schlei, I think it’s one of the most beautiful holiday regions in Germany but most people have never heard of it!
- If you’re feeling active, you can also hike bikes or standup paddle boards. Alternatively, you can explore by horseback!
- Make sure to visit some of the local towns, including the viking village of Haitabu, the old Hanseatic city of Flensburg, Arnis and Kappeln.
- Look out for wildlife: 170 different bird species live on this uniquely beautiful peninsula.
Ostseehof Langfeld
“ This farm with its holiday homes is not only a beautiful place to stay, it is an aesthetic highlight in the whole region, almost a cultural monument, and located 800 meters away from the beach and directly on the nature reserve Geltinger Birk.”

WHERE?
Ostseehof Langfeld is located in northern Germany, near Geltinger Bucht.
It’s just under a 5-hour drive from Berlin, and there’s on-site parking available.
Getting here with public transport is a little complex. Get the train to Schleswig (direct trains from Hamburg), from where you’ll need to catch a bus or two (depending on the time of day).
