WHAT?
Owners Priska and Gehard describe the Lake District Cabin as “a little paradise”, and after a stay here, we’d challenge you to disagree. After years spent exploring the Mecklenburg Lake District by land and water, Priska and Gehard came across this property in the Stechlin-Ruppiner-Land nature park, which - at that time - was completely deserted. A lot of time and love went into creating the architecturally stunning cabin that stands amongst a lush garden.
Sleek lines contrast the wild nature of the surrounding greenery, and the cabin’s floor-to-ceiling windows allow for the outside to come inside. No matter where you are - in the living room, kitchen or bedrooms - you’re provided with views of wildflowers in the meadows, the ancient oaks in the forest or the reeds jutting from the lake. Wake up with the sun and you might spot deer grazing in the 20,000 sqm of land that belongs to the cabin, or gaze upwards and see if you can spot eagles circling over the lake looking for fish. This is a picture-book-perfect example of back-to-basics without giving up on luxurious living.

- The animal watching here is amazing; your temporary co-inhabitants on the property might include deer, badgers, herons and woodpeckers
- The cabin is the optimal starting point for hiking, cycling and paddling on countless interconnected lakes
- Take a trip to the historic cities of Rheinsberg, where there’s a palace, and Neuruppin, where there’s a spa
- Spend a lazy day, or two, or three, in the garden with a book, taking the occasional dip in the lake

THE
ESSENTIALS
Sleeping arrangements: The cabin is divided into two apartments. The larger apartment sleeps up to 4, and the smaller up to 2; they can be booked together, thus sleeping a maximum of 6. The apartments are never rented to two separate groups, so you will always have total privacy.
Bathroom set up: Each apartment has its own bathroom, and hand soap is provided (bring your own shampoo and shower gel).
Food: There’s a fully-equipped kitchen, and in nearby Seewalde there is a Demeter farm and an organic store where you can buy locally-grown produce.
For families: Families are more than welcome here, but note that the garden is open and the lake is not fenced, so you might have to keep an extra eye on little ones.
On-site equipment: There are a number of books and games, as well as a fire bowl (with wood provided).
Help: Help is on hand via phone should you need it.
Remember to pack: A torch and binoculars!
Pets: Not allowed.
Sustainability: The cabin was built using wood, and is heated using a heat pump. The cabin uses 100% green electricity and the huge garden is full of dense plants, promoting biodiversity.
Note: Priska and Gerhard might be staying in a separate house on the land, but it's unlikely you'll run into them.
WHERE?
Lake District Cabin is located in Kolonie, in northern Brandenburg on the border with Mecklenberg-Vorpommern.
It’s around a 2-hour drive from central Berlin.
The closest train station is Rheinsberg, from where you can catch a bus (infrequent) or cycle for around 40 minutes.
