Cosy cabin with a wood-burning fire, mismatched furniture and a gorgeous garden, surrounded by nothing but nature

WHAT?

Many flock directly to the Baltic Coast, perhaps foolishly, as they miss out on the unspoilt, hilly hinterland dotted with villages full of red-brick buildings. In one such village, you find Madsow Cabin, a flat-roofed wooden cabin, with a veranda that stretches out into an elongated garden. Sipping freshly-brewed coffee, overlooking the fruit trees, listening to birdsong, is - in our opinion - the best way to start the day.

Simplicity is key here, and a stay at Madsow Cabin offers a much-desired antidote to big city life. Bedrooms only have beds within them. The living room is open-plan with a large sofa and wood-burning fireplace. The centrepiece of the kitchen is the dining table, which is bright thanks to the huge glass window it stands next to. Upstairs you find a gallery with space to read, work or play. You won’t find anything pretentious here; this is a cabin designed for life.

WHY?

I fell in love because...
  • This cabin has been built with care and is designed to bring people together
  • You’ll find total peace and quiet (there are only 40 inhabitants in the village)
You must...
  • Bring bikes so you can explore the hilly surroundings and dramatic coast
  • Light the fire and curl up in front of it with a glass of wine and a good book
You might dislike...
  • You’ll need a car to properly make the most of the area
  • An additional cleaning cost is required, but it’s not much

WHO?

Introducing Sebastian, Sarah and Family Springer/Kablau!

“This is our country house, situated in a very rural location and has a spacious garden with many fruit trees.”

They love…

“The landscape surrounding the village is wonderfully hilly.”

Family Springer/Kablau’s Insider Tips
  • For those of you who like ponies, there’s a pony farm in Madsow (plus places to do horse riding)
  • Visit the Baltic Sea’s best stretches of coastline (Kühlungsborn and Heiligendamm)
  • Laze in the hammock in the garden beneath the fruit trees, taking in the sounds of the countryside
  • If you want the buzz of a city, visit Rostock or Wismar, two beautiful Hanseatic towns

Madsow Cabin

"Really beautiful house."

THE

  • Sleeping arrangements: There are two bedrooms - two doubles - and there are twin beds available on request. Note that the bedrooms are located on the ground floor.
  • Bathroom set up: There’s a ground-floor bathroom with a bath and overhead shower.
  • Food: There’s a fully-equipped kitchen and a BBQ, but you’ll have to drive if you want to eat out and there are no supermarkets in the village.
  • For families: Families are more than welcome here, and a baby cot can be provided on request. There’s a play area upstairs, too.
  • On-site equipment: There are a number of board games available, as well as materials for the wood-burning fireplace in the living room.
  • Help: Sebastian or Sarah are reachable by phone should you need help.
  • Remember to pack: Slippers, a pocket knife, good wine and good cheese!
  • Pets: Not allowed.
  • Sustainability: During the build, particular attention was paid to the materials to ensure they were as ecological as possible.

WHERE?

Madsow Cabin is in the village of Madsow, half way between Rostock and Lübeck.

You can arrive in under 3 hours from Berlin with a car.

With public transport, it’s a bit difficult. Get the train to Bahnhof Wismar, from where you’ll need to catch two local buses (one towards Neuburg, and then to Madsow).
