Two identical apartments in a stunningly created cabin with Scandinavian-inspired interiors, a stone's throw from the Ostsee

WHAT?

This small piece of land, near the dramatic cliffs and wild forests of the Ostsee, is a family heirloom, gifted to Sebastian when he and his partner were a young family. Together, they began a family project, crafting two identical wooden cabins with sloped roofs, typical of the region.

Special attention was paid to creating a bright, living space centred on minimalist principles. The open-plan living/dining room is bright and huge glass windows invite your gaze out over the terrace and into the garden, where you’ll spot fruit trees planted by Sebastian when he himself was a boy. The wooden facade blends effortlessly into the surrounding greenery, reminds you of the power of nature to help you switch off and unwind. Upstairs in the master bedroom, you can curl up below the sloped roof, contented in the knowledge that you can spend your next few days lazing on the incredibly beautiful white-sand beaches just a few minutes away.

WHY?

I fell in love because...
  • This is the ultimate romantic cabin on the coast: wooden exterior, a cosy fireplace and a short stroll from white sand beaches
  • The minimalist interiors allow you to focus on what’s important
You must...
  • Bring bikes and ride along the clifftops to Kühlungsborn and Heiligendamm, the cycle paths provide stunning views
  • Unwind in the garden after a long day of fresh sea air
You might dislike...
  • You need to bring your own bed linen and towels
  • An additional cleaning cost is required, but it’s not much

WHO?

Introducing Sebastian, Sarah and Family Springer/Kablau!

“This began as a fun family project, and we're really proud of what we've achieved.”

They love…

“A stay here is a return to the basics of what we need: shelter, warmth, nature, companionship.”

Family Springer/Kablau’s insider tips
  • Take a picnic to the natural sandy beach with the steep cliff, which can be reached on foot in a few minutes - it’s where we spent our childhood
  • Spend some time in Rerik itself; it is much quieter than the Ostsee’s big resorts but just as beautiful. Plus visit the Salzhaff, it’s formed by the offshore peninsula of Wustrow
  • In the immediate vicinity are, among other things, megalithic tombs and the lighthouse in Bastorf
  • Take a day trip to the Hanseatic city of Wismar
