WHAT?
Recognised by the International Dark-Sky Association for its exceptional lack of light pollution, Sternpark Westhavelland is the perfect place for those in search of shooting stars. It’s one of just three internationally recognised dark sky regions in Germany, and in addition to its clear horizons, it benefits from utter peace and quiet. Fields and forests stretch out for kilometres, and unspoilt rivers meander through the greenery.
At the heart of the nature park is Stargazing Glamping Getaway, a boho collection of yurts, tipis and mini-cabins, ideally located to laze as the sky lights up with stars while not sacrificing life’s little luxuries like a comfortable bed or hot running water. After just one night away, we felt the weight of our city stress slip off thanks to the fresh air and melodic bird song. Sipping coffee - freshly prepared by the organic store as part of their breakfast basket - in a hammock overlooking nothing but green is how we wish we could start every day, and curled up by a roaring fire, watching the stars begin to appear and twinkle in the sky, is how we wish we could end every day.
WHY?
I fell in love because...
- The sky really goes pitch black and the air is incredibly fresh, meaning an incredible restorative night’s sleep can be had!
- The yurts and mini-cabins are oh-so-romantic and very comfortable
You must...
- Stay awake and watch the stars come out one by one
- Explore the region by canoe: you can borrow one free of charge
You might dislike...
- The yurts and mini-cabins are quite close together, and due to the thin walls, sound travels and you might feel overheard
- If you want to BBQ, you’ll have to bring your own fire starters (and be prepared that you may have to share it)

THE
ESSENTIALS
- Sleeping arrangements: The two yurts both have double beds, and two air mattresses can be added on request (extra charge). The three mini-cabins are effectively a double bed inside a sleek trailer. The tipis sleep up to four on self-inflating air mattresses.
- Bathroom set up: There is a block with proper toilets, sinks and showers. Note that the water heater is solar-powered, meaning hot water is limited.
- Food: There’s a Bioladen in the village from where you can order a breakfast basket (must be ordered in advance). Each accomodation type has its own electric camping stove and cool box, as well as all the things required to cook (pans, wooden spoons, knives, chopping boards) and eat (plates, bowls, cutlery). There’s a small BBQ at the end of the garden, too.
- For families: This is a great place to bring little ones. If you book a yurt, two sleeping mats can be added. We’d recommend booking two mini-cabins if your kids are a bit older.
- On-site equipment: There are loungers designed to lay back and look at the stars, plus a fire pit and small BBQ (as well as charcoal). Bikes and canoes are available for guests to borrow, too.
- Optional extras: You can book longer tours of the area, for instance, canoe in one direction and cycle back. These can be booked on request.
- Help: Heike is always available via phone should you need help.
- Remember to pack: Mosquito repellent and binoculars.
- Pets: Not allowed.
- Sustainability: The infrastructure is incredibly eco-friendly, as it can be removed at any time without impacting the land. The water and electricity available is solar powered by onside panels.
